Essentials of Metabolism Informing Human Health Risk Assessment – DGK/IKW Continuing Education Course with Dr Alexander Cartus
On November 3 and 4, 2025, DGK/IKW (German Society for Scientific and Applied Cosmetics/Industry Association for Personal Care and Detergents) will host the continuing education course “Essentials of Metabolism Informing Human Health Risk Assessment” in Heidelberg, Germany.
The course is embedded in the curriculum of the advanced training series of DGK/IKW (consisting of eight courses and other requirements) for obtaining the additional qualification “DGK Safety Assessor” which enables to perform the demanding task of a safety assessor. The course is aimed at anyone involved in the safety assessment of cosmetic products, for instance in industry, science and authorities.
The training course explains the basics of metabolism, kinetics and structure-activity relationships and also provides the participants with knowledge of the theoretical and practical methods (in vitro, in vivo and in silico) to investigate the metabolism of cosmetic product ingredients.
The lectures of Dr. Alexander Cartus (Chemservice Luxembourg) will highlight the role of phase II metabolism in the evaluation of xenobiotics, with particular interest in human skin metabolism in addition to hepatic metabolism. Furthermore, Mr. Cartus will give an overview on how to address metabolism and further toxicological endpoints via in silico methods.
The course will be held on November 3 and 4, 2025, at the Marriott Hotel in Heidelberg, Germany.
The course language is German. Slides and course materials are provided in English.
