Essentials of Metabolism Informing Human Health Risk Assessment – DGK/IKW Continuing Education Course with Dr Alexander Cartus

On February 27 and 28, 2023, DGK/IKW (German Society for Scientific and Applied Cosmetics/Industry Association for Personal Care and Detergents) will host the continuing education course “Essentials of Metabolism Informing Human Health Risk Assessment” in Heidelberg, Germany.

The course is embedded in the curriculum of the advanced training series of DGK/IKW (consisting of seven courses) for the acquisition of the additional qualification “DGK Safety Assessor” and enables to perform the demanding task of a safety assessor in addition to other requirements. The course is aimed at all persons involved in the safety assessment of cosmetic products in industry, science and in authorities.

The training course explains the basics of metabolism, kinetics and structure-activity relationships and also provides the participants with knowledge of the theoretical and practical methods (in vitro, in vivo and in silico) to investigate the metabolism of foreign substances, e.g. in cosmetic products.

The lectures of Dr. Alexander Cartus (Chemservice Luxembourg) will highlight the role of phase II metabolism in the evaluation of xenobiotics, with particular interest in human skin metabolism in addition to hepatic metabolism. In addition, Mr. Cartus will give an overview of current software solutions and toxicological endpoints that can be addressed via in silico methods in the context of a safety assessment in another lecture.

The scientific lectures will be concluded with practice-oriented exercises and a written exam.

The course will be held on February 27-28, 2023, at the Marriott Hotel in Heidelberg, Germany.

The course or lecture language is German. Slides and course materials are written in English.
