Chemservice Team published article on the distinction between biocides and detergents in the journal “Stoffrecht”
Dr Dieter Drohmann and Lara Dickens from the Chemservice Team have published an article on the distinction between biocides and detergents in the 3/2020 issue of the German journal “Stoffrecht” (Lexxion).
Due to uncertainties in the differentiation between biocides and detergents, the question comes up, which criteria lead to the need for authorisation of a detergent as biocide according to the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR).
The authors address this question by comparing the definitions of detergents and biocides under different regulations and discussing examples of substances with multiple uses. The article then focuses on a case study from the paper industry, showing what has to be considered when differentiating between detergents and biocides.
